More than three million motorists do not believe their cars are properly prepared for the risks of winter driving, according to eBay’s latest research.
The report found that a quarter (25%) of motorists admitted they are not comfortable driving in winter conditions, with over 3.3 million (10%) feeling that their car was not adequately prepared for winter.
The eBay findings could be due to the increasing number of drivers neglecting basic car checks and maintenance. The data also revealed that one in four (25%) of motorists only checked their tyre pressure on a quarterly basis, with 11% inspecting tyre treads on a yearly basis. Almost a fifth (19%) of drivers also only check their brakes when their car is due its annual service or MOT.
Other basic vehicle checks are also often ignored, with only around a quarter of people regularly monitoring their washer fluid (28%) and oil levels (23%). Around 5% of drivers even admit to never checking the oil level of their car and 16% stated they only fill their car’s washer fluid with antifreeze washer fluid once a year.
