Seven million potholes to be filled in 2025

Written by Scott Hamilton-Cooper

The Government has announced that councils are set to receive £1.6 billion in funding to repair roads and fill potholes in 2025.

The investment is expected to result in over seven million potholes being repaired throughout 2025 and 2026, with funds increasing by 50% compared to last year.

The funding arrives as figures from The AA revealed that 10,000 more pothole-related breakdowns occurred on UK roads in 2024 compared to the previous year. A survey from The AA also revealed that 96% of motorists consider fixing potholes a priority.

In 2023, an economic analysis revealed that potholes are costing £14.4 billion a year in economic damage for England alone.
