New data from SMMT has revealed that new car sales continued to grow in April 2024, marking the 21st month of growth and the best April results since 2021.
Registering 134,274 units last month alone, the current year-to-date figures for 2024 currently stand at 679,822. When comparing April 2024 and the same month last year, sales are up by 1%, or 1,734 vehicles.
The growth for April was driven entirely by fleets, with registrations rising by 18.5% to reach 81,297 units – more than six in 10 of all new cars registered in April.
Electrified vehicles accounted for a large proportion of the market expansion, with PHEVs recording the strongest growth with an increase of 22.1%, followed by HEVs (16.7%).
The SMMT has also updated its expectations for the total number of car registrations for 2024, estimating that 1.984 million new cars will be added to UK roads by the end of the year – a 4.2% rise on last year, and 0.5% up on January’s prediction.
As new car registrations continue to rise – particularly amongst fleets and businesses which are responsible for the market growth – it is crucial that fleets have the assurance of an efficient incident management provider to help keep drivers on the road and minimise hassle for all stakeholders.
With the UK’s car parc evolving rapidly, Motor Assist’s network of trusted bodyshop experts and its integration of sophisticated claims management technology means that any ICE or EV incident can be dealt with efficiently. Its like-for-like EV guarantee also ensures that fleets and drivers who have made the commitment to go electric do not need to compromise if their vehicle is off the road.
